This is what we're celebrating.
Ten years ago, a small group of Illawarra mums who had just given birth to their first child noticed that not everyone received the same standard in care. They saw the gaps and they wanted ALL women in the Illawarra to receive the best care. Nothing less.
For a decade since, BBI has championed every woman and birthing parent's right to an empowered birth regardless of their postcode. We grew from Wollongong and now influence Federal government reform and connect with community gorups across Australia. We have achieved huge wins we still can't quite believe was possible.
We're also raising vital funds to invest in the next chapter: preventing birth trauma, driving access to midwifery-led continuity of care, and making sure every woman is respected, heard and supported.
Born in the Illawarra, the change we've fought for locally is now being felt across NSW. The maternity landscape looks different because of what this community refused to accept, and what we raised our voices for.
The historic Birth Trauma Report, where more than 4,500 women shared their stories, named what we already knew. The Minister apologised for the harm caused by the system. In that moment, we reset our vision. With a NSW election coming in 2027, our community that has done extraordinary things is launching the next chapter. We aren't done yet.
We have done so much without funding. Now we want every dollar raised on the day, and beyond it, to power our projects and continue our track record of remarkable change.

Supported more than 4,200 women share their stories to the Birth Trauma Inquiry resulting in $88.3 million funding to maternity care in NSW, an apology form the NSW Health Minister
Nearly double the number of women accessing MGP at Wollongong and Shoalhaven plus 6 new MGPs across NSW.
Secured $2.2 million in funding for the Wollongong Public Hospital renovation and a woman-centered, active birth design with birth pools, hidden medical equipment and double-headed showers
The appointment of NSW’s first Chief Midwife to drive midwifery led care
Protecting birth choices: Influencing the Federal Government to scrap restrictive definitions of low-risk only women of who private midwives can support
